Updated on: May 24, 2022
Orthodontics is a speciality that stands out as an example of precision and perfection and as a profession meant to establish a balance between function and esthetics in the oral cavity.
“The Braces guys”, as they are known…an orthodontist is meant to master his skills to
bring about precise alignment of teeth and, if needed, the jaws.
The speciality has made a rock steady ground for itself in establishing itself as one of
the leading branches of dentistry.
Preventive Orthodontics is a subdivision of our speciality that deals with preventing
malocclusions by recognizing the signs at a very early stage and preventing these signs
from developing into malocclusions.
Interceptive orthodontics deals with malocclusion that got established at a very early
age with the help of orthopaedic appliances and Myofunctional appliances. Corrective
Orthodontics deals with correcting malocclusion ls that have already been established by
fixed Orthodontic treatment (braces).
Surgical Orthodontics is the subdivision that deals with surgical correction of malocclusions beyond braces’ corrections. Surgical correction of the jaws requires a dual speciality approach.
Aligners are the next generation Orthodontics system that has surfaced and is popular due to their low profile. They can be used to correct mild to moderate malocclusion but have the disadvantage of taking longer time than conventional braces.
