Celebrating National Pride: Republic Day at Udaan School

Republic Day commemorates the implementation of the Constitution of India and the country's transition to a republic on January 26, 1950. Udaan School celebrated this significant national occasion on January 24, 2025, with patriotic fervour and inclusive participation. The celebration began with the collective singing of the national anthem. Students and faculty adorned themselves in colours representing the Indian flag—saffron, white, and green. The school premises were decorated with patriotic symbols, tricolour balloons, and handmade posters depicting national leaders and monuments. An inclusive art session allowed students to create tricolour crafts, including paper flags and badges, using accessible materials. The sensory aspects of the celebration were thoughtfully designed, incorporating visual elements of the Indian flag, melodious patriotic music, and the collective experience of singing the national anthem.
Faculty observed heightened emotional engagement during the ceremony, with many students displaying appropriate responses such as saluting, standing attentively, or focusing on the flag. The collective singing of the national anthem created a powerful sense of unity, with students participating according to their abilities—some singing clearly, others humming along, and some simply standing respectfully. Art activities revealed students' growing understanding of national symbols, with many independently incorporating the tricolour scheme in their creations. Several faculty members noted that the structured nature of patriotic ceremonies provided beneficial routines for students who respond well to predictable sequences. Parents who attended appreciated how the celebration fostered a sense of belonging to the larger national community, transcending the boundaries often experienced by persons with disabilities.
The Republic Day celebration at Udaan School balanced patriotic observance with inclusive participation, demonstrating that national celebrations can be meaningful learning experiences for students with diverse abilities. Through thoughtful adaptation of traditional ceremonies and activities, the celebration fostered national pride while providing sensory engagement, cognitive development, and social participation opportunities. The event reinforced Udaan School's dual commitment to inclusive education and nurturing civic values. With continued support from SGT University's administration and the dedication of faculty members, Udaan School remains committed to creating celebratory experiences that honour the national heritage and the diverse needs of its student community, preparing them to be valued citizens of India's vibrant democracy.
