The Department of Sports Physiotherapy at SGT University is dedicated to the science and art of optimizing athletic performance, injury prevention, and rehabilitation across all levels of sports participation—from grassroots to elite. With a commitment to excellence in clinical practice, education, and research, the department prepares students to meet the unique demands of athletes and physically active individuals.
The curriculum emphasizes the integration of exercise science, biomechanics, manual therapy, and functional training into the rehabilitation and performance enhancement of athletes. Students are trained to assess and manage acute, chronic, and overuse injuries across different sports disciplines using modern diagnostic and therapeutic tools.
The department boasts cutting-edge sports labs, motion analysis systems, IASTM, Cupping, cryotherapy and thermotherapy modalities, as well as advanced tools for proprioceptive and neuromuscular retraining. Students are actively involved in injury surveillance, field-side assessment and provide advanced training, provide advanced rehabilitation, and return-to-play decision-making in real-time scenarios.
A distinctive feature is the department’s collaboration with sports academies, schools, and professional teams, providing students with immersive experiences through on-field internships, sports camps, and event-based injury management opportunities.

    Department Objectives:
  • To develop expert sports physiotherapists capable of assessing, preventing, and rehabilitating athletic injuries using evidence-based strategies.
  • To provide hands-on experience in sports settings through collaborations with academies, fitness centres, and athletic events.
  • To impart advanced training in athletic taping, sports massage, movement screening, and functional return-to-play protocols.
  • To use technology-driven assessments like motion capture, EMG feedback, and GPS tracking to analyze athletic performance and movement mechanics.
  • To promote research and innovation in areas such as sports injury epidemiology, performance enhancement, load monitoring, and injury prediction.
  • To foster inter-professional collaboration with coaches, sports psychologists, orthopaedicians, and nutritionists for holistic athlete care.
  • To prepare students to work in high-performance centres, sports teams, rehabilitation clinics, and fitness industries both nationally and globally.
